To refresh a SmartLink, right-click it and select Refresh SmartLink. You can also click the Refresh button to refresh all the SmartLinks in a text box. If your SmartLink does not appear with a light blue background, it is not refreshable, and you must delete and re-enter the SmartLink to update the information.
Jumps to the next SmartList or wildcard in a note or letter. This might be especially useful after filling out a wildcard (***).
Left-click to select one or more items on a SmartList, then right-click while still in the SmartList to accept your choices and move to the next SmartList.
SmartLinks help you quickly write notes by pulling information from the patient record directly into your document. Here are some of the most common SmartLinks: .name (patient's first, middle, and last name), .age (patient's age), .sex (patient's sex), .dob (patient's date of birth), .td (today's date), .id (patient's name, age, and sex).
Several common SmartLinks are available in prose format, meaning that the information pulled in from the SmartLink appears in full sentences rather than tables. These SmartLinks often have a "p" at the end of their names. For example, .algp and .probppull in the patient's allergies and problems in full sentences, respectively.
In SmartLists, a yellow background means you can select only one item. A blue background means you can select one or more items.
If you frequently type the same block of text, select the text and click the green plus icon. Note that this text shouldn't include SmartLinks. In the SmartPhrase Editor, name your phrase and click Accept. It is now saved as a SmartPhrase. Type "." and the name to insert it in future notes.
Share SmartPhrases with your colleagues by selecting Personalize > My SmartPhrases. Select the SmartPhrases you want to share and click Share. Enter any colleagues' names in the User field and click Accept.
If you use a certain SmartText often, add it to your list of favorites. In the SmartText Selection window, select a SmartText and click Add Favorite. It now appears on the Favorites tab in this window.
To see a list of all the available SmartLinks and SmartPhrases, click the List My Phrases button in the SmartTools toolbar. The button has a .? icon.
To locate your favorite SmartTexts faster, select the Favorites tab in the SmartText Selection window and click Make Tab Default.
In time fields, enter "n" to pull in the current time. Use this for relative times too. For example, enter "n+30" to pull in a time that's 30 minutes from now, or "n-30 "for a time 30 minutes in the past.
Press = and then Enter in certain fields to bring up the same record you were just in.
Example: Press = and then Enter in the Name/MRN field in the Patient Lookup window to pull in the name of the patient whose chart you were previously in.
When searching for a patient in the Patient Lookup window, select the Recent Patients tab to view the names of patients whose charts you recently accessed.
When looking up a patient in the Patient Lookup window, enter the first few letters of their last name, a comma, and the first few letters of their first name. To narrow your results, enter a unique identifier such as their Social Security number, date of birth, or sex. For the most targeted search, enter the patient's medical record number (MRN).
