Click a column header to quickly sort the messages in a folder. Click the header again to sort them in the other direction.
Click Sort & Filter on the right of the folder title bar to sort by more than one column or filter the messages that appear. When you first access a folder (before you select a message), you can also use the buttons that appear below the message list pane to sort and filter your messages.
You can quickly see if you have unread In Basket messages by looking at the In Basket alert bar on the bottom of your screen. The name of the message type is red if you have unread high priority messages and blue if your unread messages are normal priority. Click the name of a message type to open that folder.
Click Settings to change your In Basket folder order:
• On the Display Order tab, press and hold Ctrl as you select the folders that should be near the top. Then click Add >.
• Click the up arrow or the down arrow to adjust the order of the folders you selected. Click Accept to save your new folder order.
Click a QuickAction button to write a letter, result note, Quick Note, or secure patient message for routine follow-up from In Basket. In a few clicks, In Basket can enter your standard text, route it to your preferred recipients, and even mark the message as Done.
To add a note to a set of results from your In Basket, select the Results message and click Result Note. Enter your text and any recipients, and then click Accept to save the note, attach it to the orders, and route it to your specified recipients as a Result Note message.
You can also use a QuickAction to automatically create and route a result note for routine results.
View results in a flowsheet by clicking the flowsheet icon in a Results In Basket message.
Click the arrow on the right of the folder title bar or press F3 to remove the folder pane on the left side of your In Basket. Removing the folder pane allows you to work through messages in the current folder using the full screen. Click the button again and the folder pane returns.
Click the wrench icon on the right of the folder title bar to rearrange the columns in the current folder to the order you prefer. You can also change the width of each column. Alternatively, while you're reviewing messages, use your mouse to drag and drop columns to a new location or to change the width of a column.
Many In Basket messages have several reports available to reduce scrolling. To review the information in another report, click one of the report buttons above the message text.
To reposition a report, click the wrench and select Auto Position Report, Report on Bottom, or Report on Right.
Create a message and go to the Options tab. Change the send date or time to automatically send it later.
When sending an In Basket message, you can enter an expiration date on the Options tab and add message flags on the Message tab, if applicable. Once a message has expired, it is removed from the recipients' In Baskets.
Completion match on your message recipients, or enter user IDs. For example, enter "smi,ale" or an ID number to locate Alexander Smith.
Use completion matching if you're entering multiple recipients. For example, entering "smi,ale;hat,jea" adds both Alexander Smith and Jean Hathaway to your recipients list. Use a semicolon between recipient names.
To send an In Basket message to a class, enter "c classname" (for example, "c cardiology nurses"). You can use completion matching to select the class or enter "c ?" to choose from a list of In Basket classes. Use a space between the letter "c" and the question mark.
To exclude an individual staff member from a class, enter "x staffname" (for example, "x Smith, Alexa") or "x user ID number" ("x 9662"). You can use completion matching to select the staff member or enter "x ?" to choose from a list of user records. Use a space between the letter 'x' and the question mark. Keep in mind that you cannot exclude individual staff members from pool messages.
To send In Basket messages to a pool, enter "p poolname" (for example, "p radiologists"). You can use completion matching to select the pool or enter "p ?" to choose from a list of pools. Note the space between the letter "p" and the question mark.
To mark more than one message as Done, press and hold Ctrl, select each message, and click Done. For messages that are listed consecutively, select the first one, press and hold Shift, select the last one, and then click Done.
To see if a recipient read your message, click Sent Messages and look at the Pt. Read? column.
To see the additional actions you can take on a message in the Results folder, click More on the right of the folder toolbar.
Change a message's status back to Read or New by right-clicking the message and selecting Mark As New or Mark As Read.
To remove a message from your In Basket until later, click the arrow on the Properties button and select Postpone.
Click Search to look for messages in your In Basket, such as those you've postponed. Save searches you use often.
Right-click a message to see the same actions from the toolbar in a convenient right-click menu.
When you're writing a patient-related message, press F3 with your cursor in the Patient field to associate the message with the patient whose message is selected.
Moves up through the folder list.
Moves down through the folder list.
Opens the Out of Contact activity.
Refreshes or loads the selected message.
Marks the message as Done.

Select a continuous range of entries from the list. While holding down Shift on the keyboard, use your mouse to select an upper and lower bound. All entries between your two selections are highlighted.
